A morning in Austin…

We decided to wander around Austin today and spend another night so we aren’t doing any heavy driving today. We actually got out pretty early so I could have breakfast at Magnolia Café, an Austin classic that Rufus introduced me to on our first trip together back in 1996. We sat out on the patio, where Max hoovered under my table before lying down and being a “god dog” while I had some excellent cornmeal pancakes, bacon, fresh squeezed OJ, and good coffee. Make that a “good” dog!

We wandered along South Congress Avenue for a bit, but it was too early for anything to be going on and we headed off to the dog park. First we went to Shoal Creek Park, but there’s no fenced area. We met Margo and her Catahoulies, Noonie and Cooper; she told me about Norwood Estates on Riverside which is fenced, and that’s where we ended up for over an hour until Max was finally lying down in the shade chewing the tennis ball instead of chasing it.

After that, it was back to South Congress to Jo’s for lunch: Smoked Turkey sandwich and an Iced Turbo for me. OOO-EEE! An Iced Turbo is coffee, cream, espresso, hazelnut, and chocolate and wow! is it great!! Max made a dozen or so new friends – some dogs, mostly people.

How could I resist this shot outside Jo’s in Austin??

Walking up SoCo, as they call it here, we spotted Hey Cupcake! and stopped to have a Red Velvet cupcake and listen to a guy playing guitar and singing some good ole country tunes while we shared the cupcake:

Isn’t this the cutest use of an Airstream? Janey served us a delicious Red Velvet cupcake.

On the way back to take a break from it all, we got a call from Rufus’ sister Missy, and we’re going to get together later for a beer and a bite (no dog bite – just food!). Meanwhile, Max is tuckered out and doing what dogs do best, napping:

Does he look adorable or what??? Makes me want to cuddle up and snooze along.

Yeah, that’s pretty good isn’t it? We just got up from a nap and are about to change clothes for going out for a beer and whatever! Me, not Max, that is (on the changing clothes thing. He’s going along for dinner.).
